Shield Slam's damage and threat increases with your block value stat, which allows a warrior to generate excellent threat while gearing very defensively, something not all tanking classes can do. This ability becomes very important when the warrior has Glyph of Blocking , which increases the Warrior's block value by 10% for 10 seconds.

I'm trying to increase my Prot warrior DPS. I've noticed I'm a bit low looking at other prot warriors logs and Im wondering why. I used to have mastery as my primary stat but I went crit hoping my damage would increase. Also I'm trying to figure out why I am taking a bit more damage than some other warriors. I use shield block every time it's available when I'm tanking the boss. I need some help please.

Aug 26, 2019 Protection Warrior Viability in the Current Patch. When put in the right situation, Protection Warriors are not only very strong, but have the potential to completely outclass other tank specs. Against fights where the vast majority of the damage intake is blockable, Protection Warriors are one of the strongest, if not the best tank spec.
Feb 07, 2018 Why do Blood DK deal much less DMG than Prot Warrior? I thought the whole point of being a Blood DK is to be a hybrid Tank, not exactly the best tank in the world, but deals more DMG than your standard Tank.
You can't AoE grind as prot. You don't get any useful talents that AoE. Your survivability won't be good leveling as prot since warriors are really gear dependent and most of your talents scale with gear. You will do trash damage in general as proc. Thunderclap does like 0 damage and requires Battle Stance. You don't have Shockwave.
There is a major difference between the two: One is healer dependant but deals more dmg and the other is self-dependant and can help others. Pally can heal himself and others on top of tanking, and his main mitigation can be up most of the time, and lay of hands is a lifesaver if you or your co-tank are tanking hard.

Stamina
Stamina increases your total health.
Strength
Strength increases your attack power and the damage dealt by your abilities. Further, Strength slightly increases your chance to Parry.

Haste increases attack and spell casting speed, adds additional damage and healing to DoTs and HoTs, and reduces the GCD.
Versatility
Versatility increases your damage, healing, and absorption done and decreases damage received.
Mastery
Mastery provides a passive bonus to your character based on your specialization. Mastery: Critical Block increases your chance to block and critically block while also increasing your attack power.
Crit
Critical Strike increase the chance for your spells and attacks to critically hit for additional damage and healing. As Protection, Crit also increases your chance to Parry via Riposte.
